If you have ever attended a CWK dinner, you know we love anything pickled. Join us for this event and learn to make your own! We will start with a brief lecture on the different types of preserving methods, equipment and safety. We will learn to make quick, brined and fermented pickles using seasonal, farmers market ingredients to create several treats for you to try.

The foods we brine and ferment will become:

  • Classic Dill Cucumber Pickles & New York Half-Sours
  • Alsatian Sauerkraut
  • Gravlax
  • Spicy Mexican-Style Carrots & Jalepenos
  • Market Basket
  • Suzannes Screamin' Good Sweet & Sour Blackberries

KNIFE SKILLS 101. 2:00 pm
$95

We call ourselves Chicks with Knives for a reason. We love working with a good knife and want you to be excited about yours, too.

Handling a knife with dexterity and skill is the most basic building block of cooking, giving you greater consistency and confidence in the kitchen. Class starts with a quick lesson on proper posture (positioning your body, grasping the knife and holding food that’s being chopped) and then moves on to slicing and dicing. You’ll start with basic vegetable cuts, progress to julienne, chiffonade and other advanced skills. Instruction on knife identification, sharpening and care will also be discussed.

The foods we chop, slice and dice will become:

  • Asian Chop Salad with Peanut Sauce
  • Spanish Potato Tortilla
  • Chicken with Spring Vegetables
  • Beef Stir Fry
  • Perfect Fruit Salad

The Chicks - Suzanne and Rachael - teach CWK classes together, bringing you all of our culinary expertise and our lighthearted approach to being sharp in the kitchen.

We provide aprons and cutting boards, but ask you bring your own, 10-inch Chefs knife.

All classes include beverages and appetizers to sample while we cook.

The event address will be sent out with paid reservations. We will meet in a fantastically beautiful space near the Fairfax exit of the 10 freeway in the Mid-City area.
